Hello! I am Avantika Makar. I hail from India, a diverse country with over 1500 mother-tongues. I was at high school at the United World College in Singapore, where I got the opportunity to interact and live with people from over 64 nationalities. Be it swimming at the Great Barrier Reef, touring the Vatican City, climbing the Great Pyramid of Giza or discovering my own culture through the dunes of Rajasthan, nothing can ever quench my passion for traveling. Being a fervent history-lover, visiting different places and learning about their cultures, traditions and civilizations is something I have always enjoyed. Hence, I have had the opportunity to interact with a number of multilingual individuals as well as the opportunity to obtain a Bilingual I.B. Diploma myself. Therefore, when I got the chance to enroll for an English class on "Living Multilingualism", I seized the opportunity.
I have created this website to feature my work for my English 101: Living Multilingualism taught by Dr. Suhr-Sytsma course at Emory University. At Emory, we students get a unique opportunity under the Domain of One's Own Program which, as Mr. Jim Groom says aims to aid in "...the crafting of an identity with a purpose, the conscious consideration and creation of one's professional/academic identity online..." and I aim for this website to prove as a portal featuring my course assignments as well as my views and opinions based on the class discussions. Post this course, I would possible like to develop my website further as a memoir of my previous travel experience as well as a medium for me to blog about my future travel experiences.
